Setting sail from Palma de Mallorca – How to get there?

Amongst other reasons, a Mallorca yacht charter is so incredibly popular because of the easy accessibility of its international airport from all major European destinations. There are hundreds of daily flights coming in during the summer, making it a real hub for sailors and seasoned yachties from all over the world. In addition, the airport is a mere 9 km away from the capital `Palma`, as it is simply known to the inhabitants.

Its favorable location in the western Mediterranean Sea sets this gorgeous island and the surrounding Balearics in the immediate vicinity of the Spanish mainland and the port cities of Barcelona, Valencia and Denia. Often sailors will use Palma as a resting point when crossing the Mediterranean. The area is a great cruising ground for yacht rental because of the diversity of the different islands that make up the Balearics. Ibiza, Formentera and Menorca are reachable within only one sailing day. Yet they each offer something completely different in terms of culture, landscape and atmosphere.

Which marinas in and around Palma de Mallorca are there for a motor or sailing yacht charter?

There are some very established and some pristine new marinas to choose from for your yacht charter in Mallorca. The yacht harbors in Palma itself are offering quite a lot of both, luxury and bareboat charter, whereas the exclusive marinas of Puerto Portals, Port Adriano and Puerto Andratx are perfectly suited for luxury boat charter in Mallorca. What has Palma de Mallorca got to offer for après sailing?

Now you may have come here for sailing holidays, but there is way more to do if you only know where and when … Not a day goes by in Palma that there isn't some sort of party or event. From January to December, there's always something going on here. If you have not attended it yet, seeing the Three Kings arrive in the port on the Spanish Christmas day, January 6, is a sight to behold. And in the end of January there is a whole week of festivities called San Sebastian. Numerous life bands play in the streets, you can `run with the devils` or join in for the huge barbecue at the very end of the week. In summer you can pick your choice of regattas: Be it the Superyacht Cup in June, the Princessa del Rey in July or the Copa del Rey in August.

Downtown Palma is wonderful to behold, as is the old quarter. You'll find the overall architecture is a blend of the intricate eastern style and the imposing western style. The famous Palma Cathedral, commonly referred to as ´La Seu´ is second to none in the world. Also a must is the impressive Castell de Bellver that towers over Palma and boasts some unbelievable views over the whole bay.

Apart from seeing the abundant sights, sampling the local specialties like the famous Sobrasada sausages or the popular `lomo´ (pork loin) along with some Mallorquin wine is a pure joy.

Shopping facilities for souvenirs or in preparation for your yacht charter in Palma de Mallorca are plentiful. Just head to the big department store El Corte Ingles (they have a luxury delicatessen department too) or to the shopping mall Porto Pi that is situated just around the corner from Club de Mar. You can purchase fresh produce in abundance in the centrally located Santa Catalina market during the mornings. And in the Old Town and the city center there is an endless array of gorgeous boutiques and shops for you to choose from.

The nightlife is splendid; you just need to head down to the water towards the promenade known as Paseo Maritimo. There you'll find the best clubs, bars and terraces, all overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and all packed full with happy yacht charter visitors.

What are the best day charter trips from Palma de Mallorca?

Off course Palma is the heart of Mallorca, yet it isn´t everything there is … By car you can do many excursions, head into the spectacular Tramuntana mountain range and visit some of the enormously charming little villages there. Deia, Valdemossa or Puerto de Soller are just a few names you should remember. There is a very cute, over 100-year-old train that goes from Palma to Soller and from there you can take the equally quaint tram to the port. A recommendable trip on the water would be going on a guided tour to the island of Cabrera, which is also a nature reserve. On the way they will tell you a lot about the interesting history as well as the fauna and flora of this place. Go swim in caves with crystal clear water and soak up the Mediterranean sun. A day yacht charter, most likely on a motor yacht from Palma would be another option to go there. One of those motor yacht charter boats can fit up to 6 to 8 people and you get a skipper to take you to the island, where you can snorkel or dive and admire the unspoilt underwater world.

Some Tangy Facts About Oranges

One of the most popular of all citrus fruits, oranges attract maximum fan following on account of their juicy, tangy and pulpy taste. This citrus fruit is not only a great source of Vitamin C but is also a healthy reenergizing drink. Research suggests that more than 70% of the US population consume orange juice. No fitness enthusiast begins his day without a glass of orange juice! Inspite of its universal popularity, few people are aware of some of the most interesting facts associated with this fruit. Given below are some juicy orange facts.

a) Oranges were first imported from China to the United States. It is the fourth most popular fruit in the US besides being the largest citrus crop in the world.

b) Brazil is the largest producer of oranges in the world!

c) The origin of citrus fruit can be traced to Asia some 20 million years ago. Citrus was first mentioned in literature in 2400 B.C. However, it’s been just 125 years since the United States started cultivating orange trees.

d) Oranges are available in multiple varieties including Valencia orange, navel orange, Hamlin, Moro and so on. Navel oranges are more popular as they can be easily peeled off.

e) The name ‘navel orange’ has been derived from the appearance of the fruit, which resembles a bellybutton or navel.

f) In 1873, three navel orange trees were brought from Brazil and planted in Riverside, California. Today, one of the three original trees is still alive and producing fruit!

g) Many people confuse the quality of oranges on account of a greenish tinge on its skin. A little green on orange surface is chiefly the result of ‘Re-greening’ (a process where ripe oranges turn from orange to green left on the trees for long). However, this does not affect either the taste or nutrition of the fruit.

h) Oranges have more fiber content than most fruits and vegetables!

i) Celebrities like the music king Russell Simmons, actor William Shatner and model Angela Lindvall worked behind the counters of a local orange juice store before initiating their famous careers.

These orange fun facts will really make you feel amazed the next time you see a glass of orange juice lying on your table. Any why not, hardly anyone pays attention to the simple things around us!

Italia Serie A Soccer – AC Milan Lost Another Key Game

The 17-time champion of the Italian Serie A, the AC Milan, lost again another important game in the Italian Serie A after, being defeated for team Sampdoria 2-1 on Sunday. With this defeat, AC Milan is getting away from the top team Inter Milan, who has now 60 points. Currently AC Milan has 48 points, 12 points away from Inter and 5 points away from the second place Juventus, which has 53 points. Also, with this result, some critics’ doubt that AC Milan could even battle for the Scudetto this season, but Coach Ancelotti still has a hope for his team.

During these past two weeks, the results of AC Milan haven’t been positive; first losing against Inter Milan 2-1 on week 24 of the season, then exiting the UEFA Cup in the Round of 32 against Werder Bremen with an overall score of 3-3 (with the away goal rule in favour of the German squad) and now losing against the 14th place Sampdoria 2-1.

As well, there’s some rumours about that Carlo Ancelotti is in risk of getting replaced at the end of the season; however, the owner of the AC Milan franchise, Silvio Berlusconi, has expressed that the job of Ancelotti is safe for now, especially since he knows that the manager is dealing with injuries in some key players and as a result the positive outcomes have not been easy to accomplish.

Nevertheless, Carlo Ancelotti is sure that his team will get better these following weeks as he expects that players like Kaka, Ronaldiho and some others will come back to the field.

«It is no doubt a difficult moment, but I am sure that things will get better soon. As soon as we recover our injured players and get a chance to train adequately, we will get back on track. I think it will take a couple of weeks but you will soon see a very different side,» stated Ancelotti.

Another concern for the AC Milan is the departure of the English midfielder David Beckham, who is leaving on March 9th to reunite with his team, the LA Galaxy. The retention of the midfielder has been a constant drama these past weeks in Italy, due to the fact that he was becoming an important part of the AC Milan late success and they want him to stay, however LA Galaxy did not want to make any negotiations over his player and now the superstar Beckham has to leave to comply his contract with the MLS team.

Despite all these difficulties, AC Milan players, Coach Ancelotti and the franchise are hoping that things will get better, so they can achieve their only and last objective, which is obtaining the third place of the standings at the end of the season to get a berth in the Champions League.

The next game of AC Milan in the Italian Serie A will be against Atalanta on Sunday March, 8th at San Siro and the hopes are set in having several injured players back in the field. This also will be a special day as this will be David Beckham’s last game with the «Rossoneri».

Why Are Singles Singled Out?

Scanning local media I am impressed by the choice of tempting short break holidays on offer. Up for grabs are three days in Valencia for €95 and for just €15 more for similar in Madrid. I hope we won’t hear criticisms of tour companies that offer such good value for money.

In the UK 29% of homes have only one person resident; a total of 7.6 million. Why would it be different on the Costas? I wonder if convention excludes many thousands of singles from taking advantage of these offers. Being single but not unsociable I am envious of those who, with their arm-candy, occasionally take advantage of such breaks, night outs and restaurant tête-à-tête. Try it on your own.

Of course there are many singles whose status is not necessarily by choice; widowed, divorced, plain, ugly or plain ugly; maybe known to be cantankerous on occasion. They still deserve and need company. Why can’t they be loved too?

Several years ago I missed occasional company of skirt but had no wish to change my single status. I signed up to a holidays for a singles online service. When setting out my profile I told no lies. What you see is what you get. I even used a recent photograph of myself. There are cheats (we know who you are) who are economical with the truth by using photographs taken before they put on 15 kg or 15 years earlier.

I recall one lady who, when questioned, admitted she used her daughter’s photograph; otherwise she found it difficult to get a date. With morals like that she might have made up for it in other ways; her date wasn’t interested in finding out.

The holidays for singles are a wonderful idea and gave us singles the best of both worlds. When writing out my profile I made it clear that I wanted a shared holiday, not a shared life. The dilemma was the delicate subject of sleeping arrangements. No problem for me; after a day’s touring all I want to do is sleep.

But if you book single rooms the costs soar. Anyway, the loneliness of separate rooms after a day’s togetherness seemed to go against the spirit of the venture. I couldn’t see a problem sharing a room though not necessarily the bed. Leaving hanky-panky aside it is nice to have company, someone to natter with at lights out.

We are all adults; if we can’t be trusted to stay in our own beds we can’t be trusted to share a coach seat. All I could do was run it up the flag pole and see if anyone saluted. I did and was surprised at the number of ladies who found the suggestion accommodating. One at a time I presume.

Maybe these tour operators should try a little matchmaking; it could pay dividends. It’s not a dating site we need; it is a ‘Travel Date’ solution.

Cosmos Vs Globus

Visiting Europe is more affordable than you might think. The Globus family of brands has two options to choose from. Cosmos offers a great vacation value for those on a budget, while Globus offers premium escorted travel.

In order to understand the difference more clearly, I am going to use an example I came across earlier this week where a client was planning a trip to Spain, but was undecided between the Cosmos «Grand tour of Spain,» and the Globus «Spanish Fiesta.» Specifically, the client wanted to know why she should pay $500 more for the Globus trip, when the Cosmos goes to the same places and is one day longer?

This is one of the best questions you can ask your travel agent! The tourist industry is a very competitive field and if one company is offering the same itinerary at a decidedly different price, there’s got to be a reason. As we sat and discussed the two itineraries, here is what the client learned.

She would land in Madrid on either tour; both would have meet and greet, (if airfare had been purchased through the tour operator), and each would have a hotel room reserved in her name. Now where the difference begin, is that the Globus tour director would host a welcome dinner that evening and she would meet the other travelers. The Cosmos tour director would only be in the hotel lobby to say hello. Dinner will be on her own, and perhaps she would meet up with other travelers and join them.

After a buffet breakfast (included each morning in either tour) the Globus group will have in depth sightseeing in Madrid, seeing all the major sights, with entrance to the world famous Prado Museum included and paid for. The afternoon will offer free time. The Cosmos group leaves Madrid, and is driven to Valencia (via Aranjuez and Cuenca), a distance of about 222 miles, with a stop at the Royal Palace along the way. The driving time is about 4 hours, but there will be photo stops as well as a stop for lunch, although not included. The Cosmos tour would then stay in Valencia two nights, which no included sightseeing.

On day two, the Globus tour will head north to Vitoria, stopping at Segovia and Burgos…with photo, rest and lunch stops, of course. Lunch is not included with the Globus on this day either. The distance is about 175 miles, or about 3 hours.

I won’t continue the day-by-day comparison, as the article would be quite lengthy, but be assured that these differences continue throughout. Example: Globus has in-depth sightseeing in Granada, Cosmos offers it as an optional. The Globus tour takes you to Gibraltar, with entrance fee included; Cosmos does not go to Gibraltar. Globus stops for guided, fee paid sightseeing in Toledo; Cosmos does not stop at Toledo. The Cosmos visit in Madrid is at the end of your tour, no inside visits are included.

There are also more subtle differences that a Globus tour includes over Cosmos, such as extra nights in major cities to allow for more free time, a few extra meals throughout the trip, perhaps with wine included or entertainment. With Globus you often each at local restaurants, where we Cosmos you frequent the hotel’s restaurant.

To sum it all up, if your goal is to travel comfortably, with clean hotels, some meals, a tour guide as your shepherd and information source and at a price you can afford, go «budget,» which is with Cosmos tours. Just remember, there will be many «optional» tours and meals, so do the math. If you want to see as much as possible, gain access to outstanding museums and sights, stay in centrally located hotels and avoid many of the optionals, so more is included in your up-front price, you will find that Globus tours is the better way to go.

Keep in mind they are both owned by the same company, who have offered escorted tours for over 80 years, so you will not be disappointed either way, as long as you are clear on what’s included in the price.

David Villa

Born in Langreo, Asturias in 1981, David Villa almost never got to play football. He fractured his right femur as a little boy and but for the determination of his father, El Guaje (the Kid) might never have become one of the top strikers in the sport. The Valencia team won the Copa del Rey for the second time in the 2007/2008 Season with Villa’s help. Then, in 2010, Barcelona claimed him as their own for €40 million.

His first start with the Spanish National Team came in 2005. He has participated in a couple of major tournaments, including the 2006 World Cup and the 2008-EURO. David Villa scored three goals in that World Cup and four in the EURO, cementing him a spot on the National Squad. In fact, Villa is one of the top all-time scorers for Team Spain and was listed as the World’s Top Goal Scorer in 2009.

Like so many professional footballers, David Villa is active in the world of charity and, along with teammates, attends and hosts functions for worthwhile causes. How to Handle a Bully

A bully is a person who hurts, frightens, or tyrannizes those people who are smaller or weaker. The bully intimidates and is aggressive. Because bullies have low self esteem and low confidence they usually look for a person that is weaker than them.

Some people agree that bullies have a very high self esteem. I personally don’t think so. If a bully is a person that can’t handle aggression in healthy ways and usually look for victims they definitely lack self-esteem. Bullies tend to look strong and confident, but this is a mask to cover up their fears and inability to handle aggression.

According to the American Psychological Association, bullies are described as «Impulsive, easily frustrated, dominant in personality, and difficulty conforming to rules». Bullying usually start early in life and if this behavior is not corrected, it will be repeated.

Often time’s people who are bullied are shy and very passive, they lack the ability to stand up for themselves. Have feelings of helplessness and dependence. Therefore, this bullied people also lack self-esteem and confidence.

The main difference between a bully and a victim is that the bully will have a tendency to engage in criminal behavior later in life. The bullied, on the other hand, will be more likely to suffer from low self-esteem and depression. Bullying can be done in different forms: calling names, threading, spreading rumors, joke about your size, race, religion, physical abuse and so on.

How can we handle bullies? Here are some tips:

  • The first step if you are victim is to start building self-esteem. By establishing strong boundaries and learning to stand up you will stop bullies.
  • Learn to be assertive and firm. Say: I am not going to take this… You are trying to make me feel bad but is not working… and so on.
  • Always make eye contact. Look directly at the bully when you speak.
  • Keep your voice strong and firm without shouting.

If you find that you are a victim of bullies, don’t ignore this fact. Remember that bullies are attracted to passive people who lack self confidence .You need to take action and before taking action, be prepared. The best way to take action is building self-esteem and confidence.

Learn to be assertive and write down your success. Writing down the times you been successful stopping a bully will create more confidence and make you feel good about yourself. In the mean time, while you are working on it try to avoid this people and places and be persistent. If you can’t deal with the problem seek help.

If you think bullies only terrorize the schoolyard, think again. When they’re through intimidating their classmates, they can grow up to become menacing co-workers, spouses, friends and parents» – Dr. Phil.

Where to Eat Paella in Valencia

It's not a surprise that Valencia is the best place to go for paella. The original recipe comes from here and this great dish is the culinary symbol of the city. In Valencia there are lots of nice restaurants, often located by the beach or near the "Ciudad Vella". Most of them have spent a lot of effort into the decoration and the atmosphere is really welcoming. No matter what you will be doing in Valencia: you must taste paella at least once during your stay. Check these 3 restaurants so that you can eat the best paella in town.

La Ruia Restaurant

Probably it is the best place to eat if you are looking for a traditional genuine Valencian restaurant. It offers a wide range of local choices: over 15 traditional types of paellas and rice (it's difficult to find such an offer in any other restaurant in the city), fish dishes and the local meat. The interior is typical Valencian with ceramics and meborabilia on the walls. La Riua is really a legend: it is a loved and respected place and due to this there are usually a lot of guests. You can call and book a table or also order your paella while you are arriving. Eating paella costs almost 15 euro, meat 7, 10 fish and seafood.

Tapelia Restaurant

This restaurant is a real "arroceria" ("ricery") with a broad offer of rice dishes (15 – 20 different types of paella). You can even taste the unique paella with deer. You can also order some good creative meat dishes, great starters and salads. It is also possible to have paella to take-away. The range of prices varies between 15/20 euro for a paella, 5/7 for meat dishes, 12 for salads. The ambience is really welcoming with stonework walls, intimate lighting, artworks with a great jazz soundtrack, many small tables together and a few people. There are other two "Tapelia restaurants" in town, one near the beach and one near the City of Arts and Sciences.

Taverna Alkazar

The Taverna Alkazar is a historic restaurant located in the center of Valencia with over 50 years of history. It is one of the most popular ones, even for the Valencians. Probably it is not cheap, but the great level of quality combined with the idea of simplicity makes it one of the best places to eat. It offers Spanish themes on the walls and a big dining terrace for the summer that is shared with two neighbor restaurants, maybe a bit cheaper (so why don't check out also the Givera and the Palacio de Bellota). You can have luxury traditional fish, seafood and meat plus a fair few paella varieties. The fish / seafood dishes can cost about 15/20 euro, the meat 10.
