Buying a centre back is the owners “top priority” yet they are struggling to get one over the line.. I have faith in them to get the right signings the sensible signings which has already been done with the acquisition of Trippier and Wood, but the only concern I have is that we need a centre back in for these next two games just as much as we needed a striker.. this is the worse defence in the league and that could still be our undoing in these crucial games like it has been all season

Fans would have been upset if we signed Chris Wood under Ashley…. We now have money… Can buy the likes of Schick, and yet still spend a ridiculous £25million on Chris Wood and fans are happy…. Ridiculous! Just spend the extra £20million and get Schick…. Wood will be useless next season and if we don't beat Watford, everyone will regret the Wood signing!

This deal stinks, doesn’t look good in the football world, I am embarrassed by it.
But Money talks & is killing the game, £20 million for a 30 year old, that occasionally scores a goal, for goodness sake.
Obvious desperation, which I understand….crazy money in a crazy football world.

Let me throw something out there. I'm seeing everyone saying this is a great signing taking a striker from a relegation rival… This striker wasn't scoring for Burnley, which is good for us. Taking him from Burnley might mean he now doesn't score for us, and there's potential for Burnley to buy a striker that does score…?

Hi Adam. I don' think its a case of us being turned down by players, contrary to that, it appears to be the opposite, the likes of Botman, Diego Carlos and many others have all favoured a move, including wor Trippier. The problem is due to the January window and more specifically owning clubs increasing their price demands, particularly it would seem, French clubs. The month only truly began on the 4th January due to the bank holiday, its only been a week and we have the rest of the month to recruit so still expect big names/statement signings coming. With regards to Wood, a good measure of his true value to us would be to consider what a fair price for him would be in todays market?! Lets say £15m (don't forget he has only JUST turned 30 a matter of weeks ago) thus the premium we are paying is in only in advance of £5m. That is chick feed for the Premier Leagues leading aerial threat, from a relegation rival and ensuring that we have a striker by Saturday v Watford. If the lad can get a good tally between now and summer, he will maintain a decent value, so if we looked to upgrade, we would get a large part of that money back. As a final bonus, this lad adds experience to the squad and would take the burden off of a younger, more talented statement player from abroad who could very easily be overwhelmed by pressure, Jon Dahl Tomasson being one such example of burden and pressure crippling the game of a bright talent. I don't think many kids will put posters of Chris Wood on their wall, certainly not a dazzling signing but a shrewd and invaluable one for the club and cause.

Gotta admit, have never seen a Chris Wood comp before. Maybee cause i dont like Burnleys style of play..Checked out his 50 burnley goals, and i gotta say hes not messin around when the chance pops up. Ice cold finishing.. And what a header of a football.. Good luck at Newcastle United Woody. You got a hopefull friend in me! ??? Howay the lads!

spending 25m on Wood to try and help us stay up verse going down and possible loss of 200m is a no brainer we just need certain players to feed him crosses

cant stand your titles as medical not until morning and he not signed yet but happy if he does

This is a good signing. If he can get us 6-8 goals in the league that’ll come in handy. Holds up the ball well although he ain’t the most clinical he’ll still do a job for us better nothing I guess.

Bro, the FA Cup is a giant killer.
Always has been, look at the arsenal result.
Forget about Cambridge. A few decent signings will change the team.
If we go down, so be it. We come up ten times as strong as champion's and do a leister.
Hope we stay up. Loads of points to play for.

Thing is a lot of players are out of contract at end of the season , now I may be optimistic but I do think big players or bigger players are waiting till the end of the season and I reckon if we stay up you’ll see a good few big signings

The club will happily pay 60m for Schick 45 for botman and 40 for Carlos imo. Problem is the January transfer budget, we will go big in the summer when we are allowed I think

  13. Grant Pietersen

i really dnt understand REALLY guys we r happy signing medeocure players or did u forgot we the richest club in the world n do u guys think these players wil help us stay up im just not impressed at all

  14. Adnan Ali

Insane signing lol for 25 mill now and not 20 mill as first thought. For me its great business for Burnley they can then sign Brereton Diaz or Alfredo Moreles

  15. Ashley W

The issue is the players Newcastle have won’t perform because they know that they will be gone first chance. What have they to play for really. Because we all know 90% of that team are dead wood.

  16. Carl Parker

Hes very similar to Rondon, he is strong can hold the ball up well and good pass on him. He can score with good service and im sure he will get it from Trippier. Prem proven aswell. Him and Gayle would work well together.

  17. rayakins

Trippier and Wood are the kind of signings we need to stay up this season, experienced and hard working professionals. In the summer we will add again. Wood will be our 3rd striker, bit of an upgrade on Andy Carroll lol
