The History of Elastic and Its Use in Clothing

Elastic is a small narrow loop of rubber or similar material used for tightening, gripping, and holding of things with ease purposes. It has the quality of being stretched and then returning back to its original shape. Elastic has different names like rubber bands, gum bands, binder, and lacquer band.

The history of elastic has its roots back to thousands of years. The modern elastic band goes back to the mid 19th century. From the very beginning, man knew there were certain objects that would spring back to their original shape when the pressure applied on them was removed.

At first, this thing annoyed man but with the invention of fire and creating the wheel, man also thought of using elastics in his life. This property of elasticity was commonly showed by the animal parts, which man ate. Thus, the first elastic strings were born, which were made from animal gut to hold things together. With the passage of time, man realised that these strings of elastic could also be used as weapons. When a bullet was loaded in to these elastic strings, they were thrust through the air at a great velocity. This resulted in the invention of bow and arrow.

Rubber is a very popular elastic material. Many of the products made from rubber are bounced around, stretched, and pounded, and since they are elastic they return to their original shape. Because of this property, people use rubber in a lot many ways. It was named rubber because people found out it could rub the pencil stains. Rubber was used by the Early American Indians before Columbus even set his foot there. They called it Caoutchouc derived from the word cahuhchu meaning weeping wood.

This substance was obtained from the sap of the rubber tree. The original rubber bands in older days were made from the latex sap of rubber trees. However, today rubber bands are made from technology that is more modern and materials. The Mayans also added juice from vines to the rubber sap to create a durable and elastic material to bind things together. This was the first type of the rubber band. Later in 1845 modern rubber band was invented. In 1923, first mass production of rubber bands was started by William Spencer.

Other elastic materials have also several uses. Rubber has various uses in today’s world. Rubber is used for tires, elastic bands and other bouncy and stretchable objects. Elastic materials are also used in sports. Insulated, elastic balls are essential to many sports as non-elastic balls would deform when used. Basketballs, volleyballs, and soccer balls have to be elastic to allow them to their normal shape.

Elastic is used in clothing as well mostly for fitting purposes. Elastic provides a room for stretch ability and recoverability of clothes. The elastic waistbands are especially very much in use. They help you choose pants, trousers, etc of size smaller than your original waist, thus making you look slimmer. In addition, they can be used for a longer period, since they don’t get wasted if you gain or lose weight. They are adjustable. Elastics are also used for chest fitted gowns or shirts. They also act as an accessory to create various designs on your shirts. The elastic laminated sheet is also used in many articles of clothing. Such articles include shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, socks, athletic wear, swimsuits, shorts, medical and surgical garments et cetera. The stretch ability and recoverability in these clothes because of elastic sheet helps movements easy and make clothes more durable since they don’t get torn or ruptured.

Five Reasons to Select Proper Athletic Clothing

Selecting the right kind of clothes is always important. You cannot go for a formal meeting in your pajamas nor can you go to bed in your tuxedo. Thus, it is important to select the right clothing for each and every occasion. Be it meeting, wedding, date, gym, sports and so on. Yes! You heard it right. It is important to wear right clothes for a gym session and while playing any sports as well. Wondering why it is important?

Here are five reasons which will make you realize the importance of athletic clothing:

  • Wearing the proper athletic clothing will boost your confidence – The clothing you wear will make a huge difference in your performance. This has been proven by few studies done all around the world. Studies have shown that wearing the right clothes has a positive impact and you tend to perform better. Thus, when you have the right equipment and you are wearing the right clothes, the confidence interprets into better performance.
  • Right sports apparel enhances performance – Selecting the right apparel is necessary for any sport you play. For instance, a pair of running shoes is necessary for soccer. But they are not recommended for few other sports as they lack flexibility, traction and lateral stability which are required for other sports. Also, clothing that removes perspiration from the body must be selected.
  • Correct workout equipment avoids injury and adds protection – One of the main reasons of sports related injuries is the use of improperly fitted sports equipment. For example use of shoes that do not fit properly might cause craps, blisters or even slippery. Also some of them might require use of orthotic inserts to avoid leg injuries. It is always advisable to change your shoes after using them for 400 to 500 miles.
  • The movement of the body improves when you wear the right fitted clothes – It is important that the clothes you wear provide you freedom of movement without any obstructions. Your shirt or your shorts should not be too tight that restricts your movement nor should they be too loose that they slip every time you twist, turn or jump.
  • Some compression clothing also helps you to recover from any injury after workout – These compression clothing stimulates blood circulation. This graduated blood flow through muscles helps to remove the lactic acid which is produced during workout. Consequently, the recovery of the body increases and reduces the chances of having sore and stiff muscles. Wearing of compression clothing gives the same effect as massaging.

So get yourself the right athletic apparel before you go for workout or go out play your favorite sports.

The Ryder Cup – Europe Vs USA Biennial Golf Competition

The Ryder Cup is a hotly contested biennial competition between The United States of America and Europe. This is golf played at the highest level and although few prisoners are take, the competition evokes real feelings of passion from players and gallery alike. However, it was good to see the friendliness and sporting ethos returning into the competition after the 2010 event when The Ryder Cup was held in Wales for the first time.

The fuse was lit in 1921 when the inaugural event took place in Scotland as Great Britain and Ireland took on The United States of America. Gleneagles played host on this occasion and so the onset of the great rivalry between our nations began. Although the «home» team were triumphant, it was not long before the USA were champions at every Ryder Cup match. The rest of Europe were then included, helping even up the odds somewhat!

Samuel Ryder set about donating a cup, together with the promise of £5 to each golfer on the winning side. He also paid for some chicken sandwiches and champagne.

The image engraved upon the Ryder Cup is that of the man responsible for teaching Sam Ryder how to become a great golfer himself. His name was Abe Mitchell, and although selected as the 1927 Captain for Great Britain and Ireland he became ill before embarking aboard the Aquitania and could not make the arduous journey across to New York.

The Ryder Cup has not been held in Scotland for forty years, but is «coming home» in 2014 when it will once again be contested at Gleneagles. The course chosen to host this prestigious event is The PGA Centenary Course. This is a course re-designed by one of the «greats» Jack Nicklaus, who declared it was «the finest parcel of land in the world I have ever been given to work with» and it’s fast becoming recognised as a new classic.

September 2012 will see The Ryder Cup being fought over in Illinois at the Medinah Country Club with team Captains chosen as Davis Love III for The United States and Jose Olazabal for the defending holders of the cup. Jose is sure to have a tear in his eye as he captains the Europeans as he will be thinking about his dear friend and Ryder Cup team-mate Seve Ballesteros who passed away on 7th May 2011 aged 54. Seve was a fine ambassador for golf in general and The Ryder Cup in particular, and will be sadly missed.

We have put together an information site about golf in Scotland, with a little bit of history about the great game, which we hope you enjoy reading about.

World Cup 2010 and the Year 2012

As we know that in 2010 there will be great football event, which is FIFA World Cup that will be held in South Africa next June and July. Then what will happen in 2012? Maybe our first mind when hearing 2012 is the movie entitled 2012. As we know that this movie is about the forecast of the end of the world that will happen in 2012. Maybe it will become true or not, but it’s a really great public opinion.

In the movie, we may show that there will be great catastrophes in the world that will kill the majority of the people. Although it is just a movie, but some believes it as becoming reality since the Mayan Forecast says about this. Some people believe about this thing since the some of Mayan forecasts are relevant. But I don’t think that will be great matter to debate whether this will become true or not. Just take it calmly since it’s just a movie. But it’s OK if you believe this.

Back to world cup 2010, the event is attracting great attentions from the football lovers in all over the world. The greatest football event in the world becomes the event to show which team is the best. Some known big teams with good football traditions like Brazil, Argentina, Spain, and Italy will show their best performance to become the king of the world’s football.

In my analysis, the two big teams from Latin America, Brazil and Argentina will easily step forward to the next phase. It’s very realistic since both teams have great talented players. Some of them are young talented players like Lionel Messi from Argentina as the best player of 2009, and Richardo Kaka from Brazil that also has good performance. Meanwhile, in Europe, I see that Italy, Spain, Germany, and Portugal have the same opportunity as Brazil and Argentina. It’s reasonable since they have also great players on the team. The big event of world cup will be great football show that will attract the world’s attention. Finally, my conclusion is that in both years, there will be great events (or just imagination in the case of year 2012) that will make the world influenced.

World Cup Goalkeepers – Dragoslav Jevric

Dragoslav Jevric played his debut match for Serbia & Montenegro against Mexico in 2002 at the age of 28 years. But it was in the qualifying matches for World Cup 2006 that he made his name. Of the ten matches in which Jevric kept the goal, Serbia & Montenegro did not concede even one goal in nine matches. Much of the credit for this accrued to Jevric.

His fans hailed him as an impregnable wall. They forgot the errors he used to make in the past, and lauded him for the outstanding saves he made in the qualifying matches. The Serbia & Montenegro team too recognized his skills under the bars. It was on account of his feats that the country was able to qualify for World Cup ahead of Spain.

Today, this 1974 born goalkeeper is Serbia & Montenegro’s number one goalkeeper, known for his goal stopping abilities. He has a large following across the country, and is quite popular among footballers.

In 2005, the 1.87 meteres tall Jevric joined Ankaraspor, a Turkish club, and has been keeping the goal for them. But he is understood to be looking for a bigger stage. His good performances in World Cup 2006 should surely bring him to the notice of leading European clubs.
