Fraternal Twin Parenting Concerns

Identity and Your Fraternal Twin

For the most part, throughout this article I refer to a fraternal twin in the singular rather than the plural «twins.» This is to emphasize the individuality of each twin. Too often twins are defined only by their being a part of a whole, rather than by their own individual identity. This can be very damaging emotionally, especially during the time children are struggling to establish their own self worth and place in the world.

Treat your fraternal twin as the autonomous, unique child they are. Genetically, fraternal twins are no more similar than their siblings who were born one at a time, and they certainly have personalities all their own. DNA tests can be performed to determine which type of twins your children are – fraternal, identical, etc. Far too often people look too hard for similarities between fraternal twins that simply aren’t there – and in the meanwhile, they miss the opportunity to get to know each twin individually.

As a parent, do everything in your power to encourage each twin as they develop their own identities. If one wants to play soccer and the other has a passion for bagpipes, encourage each of them to work hard and excel at what they want to do. You will be doing the twins and the world a gross disservice by pigeon-holing both children into the same activity just because they happened to be born at the same time.

At the same time you are encouraging and accepting the difference between your fraternal twin and her brother, accentuate the similarities. There is no doubt your twins will share a special bond, if for no other reason than that they are growing up with a sibling their same age. The bond that fraternal twins share can be the source of love and support throughout their lives, and you would hate to destroy that by being overeager to make them lead different lives.Dressing Your Twins Alike

When they are little, it probably matters very little what you dress your twins in. But when your fraternal twin starts to become conscious of the fact that she is different than most people, you will need to be especially sensitive to her needs with regards to establishing her individual identity. Simply put, if your children like being dressed the same, do it; if they don’t, do them and yourself the favor of letting them wear different clothes.

In the end, as is the case with all children, there is no clear cut answer when it comes to the best way to raise your twins. Learn everything you can from those who have been there and done that, but trust your parental intuition and do what’s best for your kids. Finally, remember that «the most important work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own home.»

My Epic Diaper Failure

Everybody poops. But babies have a special power, I guess. Well, that’s the only thing that they can do, apart from eating of course, and we all did the same when we were babies too.

I’m Aryan, a young father and a complete novice when it comes to handling babies. I was super thrilled when my daughter Asmi was born. I took her in my arms and she was the size of a soccer ball. I couldn’t believe that Sanya (my wife) and I created such a beautiful thing!

A couple of months passed, waking up in the middle of the night, sleeping during the day, eating scraps at home became a routine (well, when you have a baby, forget about a lavish spread for a meal at home). As well as Sanya was handling being a mother, I was barely able to manage getting around my duties as a father. And the deadliest of them was the diaper change. I heard and saw a lot of tales of dads failing miserably in diaper change but never thought it would be so disastrous for me. Here’s the horror story –

10:30 am on a Tuesday morning. Sanya was busy on her laptop in the study (yeah, awesome of her boss to allow her to work from home till Asmi was about a year old). She was preparing to give a product demo to a prospective client and I knew that it was time for me to step in as the nanny. Asmi usually wakes up at 10:30 am. So I was pacing along the bedroom waiting to hear her cry as she wakes up. Bingo! Asmi did not cry, she screamed… And I was shaking as though I had seen a ghost.

I quickly went to her crib to pick her up and suddenly, my nose exploded! The stench was brutal. It could kill a rodent in a jiffy!! I put her on the bed and against all odds (my inner voice screaming to run) pulled her diaper out. The massacre was unbelievable. Poop all over. I had never seen so much poop in my life! I quickly disposed the dirty diaper, cleaned Asmi (all the time thinking that it will be over soon) and was about to put a fresh diaper, that I heard a sound, it was faint in the beginning but then the volcano erupted (this time a fart, and a really nasty one). All this while Asmi was in a jumpy mood, but the fart changed everything! She suddenly started laughing!! Oh My God, she looked like an angel!! I changed her clothes, gave her a bath and kept her breakfast ready (in my mind I knew that I have to encounter another ordeal in a couple of hours).

Being a parent is not easy. It takes everything you have to care for a baby but that one look at your baby’s face makes you forget every sleepless night, diaper disaster and tantrum that you go through.

What’s your diaper failure story?

Futsal Shoes – Everything You Need to Know

So, you’ve decided to start the game of futsal.

The main thing you are going to require is a decent pair of indoor soccer shoes.

Follow the suggestions below to help you pick the best pair.

Length

Futsal shoes are sized like ordinary shoes. That being said, with a futsal shoe a tighter fit is normally (suggested) so standard shoe sizes may not transfer directly. These shoes are most often created of soft and supple, thin leathers. To ensure proper ball feel, a tighter fit is better. Indoor soccer shoes are designed with a more narrow upper, this makes for better feel and control on the ball. Your indoor soccer shoe should probably fit as close to the end of your foot as possible without actually touching your toes. This will make sure the highest comfort and performance. A 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap is optimal. As a general rule of thumb, every 1/2 size will give you about 4mm (3/16 inch) of length.

Width

The width of your futsal shoes can also be important. Your cleats should fit the foot snugly and your foot should not slide around inside the shoe during the game. You also don’t want the shoe to be too tight. Most indoor soccer shoes are only available in one width. You may have to experiment with several different shoes until you find one that fits the best.

Should you have wider feet, then search into acquiring cleats fabricated from kangaroo leather as these will stretch the most to match your feet.

Material

What your shoe comes from can also determine the fit. The top-of-the line leathers (especially kangaroo leather) will generally stretch after 1 or 2 uses. High-quality shoes will actually mold towards the shape of your foot therefore you will want these to fit snugly in width when they are fresh out the box.

Proper Fit

When you have your unique futsal shoes, try them on indoors to test for correct fit. Your shoes should fit snugly without discomfort or pressure points. Your toes should reach as far as the front of your shoe, but should not touch the tip. Again, Look for a gap of 1/4 to 1/2 inch. If a player continues to be growing, we suggest purchasing shoes a touch large and filling in the excess space by putting on an extra set of two socks.

Price

The nice thing about futsal shoes is that they are cheaper in price than normal soccer cleats or boots. Intend to pay $40 to $100 USD to get a high-quality pair of indoor soccer shoes. There are plenty of places for you to purchase futsal shoes both online and offline.

Further and further soccer and sports shops are starting to stock these shoes and you’ll also discover a volume of online merchants with a fantastic selection of shoes.

Soccer Cleats Maintenance Tips

It really feels great to have clean, shining soccer cleats while entering into the arena- it boosts our confidence in some discreet manner. But when you’re required to master the sport with lots of practice, on obviously dusty and marshy fields, their cleanliness is hard to perceive. So, you’ll have to be a good boy and start caring for your equipments. Regular cleaning of soccer cleats is very important if you want to ‘keep them happy’ and not degrade sooner.

Now, before you get overly enthusiastic and overwhelmed and go for slamming them straight into a washing machine or a dishwasher or tortures of any sort, read what I have to say for a few minutes. Here, we’ll be discussing tips to clean soccer cleats when they get very dirty. You may clean them in two ways- manually or by using a washing machine.

1. Cleaning Manually

For this method, you’ll require

* A piece of cloth (towel-like texture preferred)

* A boot brush for rubbing flat ends

* A toothbrush for thin crevices

* A vessel full of lukewarm water.

* Washing Powder or Liquid

1. To begin cleaning, first stuff the hollow of the shoes with a newspaper ball to prevent any water seepage into the inner shoe and to make cleaning easier.

2. Unlace the shoes and keep the laces separate for later cleaning.

3. Begin by scrubbing the ‘upper’ and the heel. They are the easiest to clean and form the most of the exposed surface of these soccer cleats. Dip the cloth into the water and simply remove the excess dirt on them.

4. For cleaning the flynet, take some washing powder on the cloth, drench the cloth again and start scrubbing. Little specks of dirt must be removed.

5. There’s naturally a lot of mud accumulated around studs at the outsole. You may use a boot brush to clean this area. If some dirt still remains at little corners, don’t hesitate in using a toothbrush for cleaning that.

6. The region where the outsole meets the upper and heel must be cleaned with a toothbrush.

7. To clean the sock liner, take it out from the inside and the using washing powder, scrub the area. For the laces, dip them into the vessel and rub them therein. The little specks of dirt they may contain must be effaced off.

You are not required to be very gentle, but that doesn’t give you the freedom to treat your soccer cleats savagely.

2. Cleaning in a washing machine

Alright! You may use the washing machine and save yourself from the labor. But for that, you’ll have to keep certain things in mind. First of all, separate the laces and the sock liner from the soccer cleats. Make sure that you’ve placed enough towels or some heavy cloth around them so they do not mess with the walls of the washing machine. Set the temperature to around 30 degree centigrade and go for extra rinse. With all this ensured, you are good to go.

Tips To Clean Your Soccer Cleats

Soccer cleats get covered in mud, grass and dirt with regular use. And cleaning them takes a good deal of time. However, with the right cleaning solution, you can clean your shoes and they will look brand new once again. Here are some tips to clean your soccer cleats.

Cleaning The Soles

Remove the excess dirt first. Each time you take your shoes off, you should hit them with each other to shed the dirt, mud and grass.

Dry clean The Dirt

You can use a special shoe-cleaning tool or a brush to clean the bottom of your cleats. Dry cleaning will loosen the grass, mud or other stuff from the spikes of the shoes.

Aside from this, you should use a toothbrush to clean the sides of your shoes soles. Actually, the abrasive bristles of a booth brush will loosen the dirt and will make it easier for you to focus on a certain area.

Prepare a cleaning solution

You can make your own cleaning solution. It should be a combination of the cleaning solution and warm water. As a matter of fact, hand soap or dish soap will make a nice solution. All you need to do is fill a container with two cups of lukewarm water. Now, you should put a tablespoon of regular soap into the solution. Shake the container until the mixture becomes sudsy.

Use The soapy solution

Now, you should dip the brush in the solution and then clean the bottom of the cleats. The brush will get covered in grass and dirt, and you should put it under a running tap. Once the brush is clean once again, you should soak it in the soap mixture and then scrub your shoes once again.

Wipe the shoe soles

Now, get a paper towel and dip it into the same soapy solution. With this paper towel, you should wipe the shoes for removing any residue of grass or dirt. You can wrap the paper towel around your fingers to reach the difficult-to-reach areas on your shoes.

Cleaning The Upper Portion of The Cleats

Clean the laces

Remove the laces from your shoes and then dip them in the solution. After 10 minutes, you can use a toothbrush and your fingers to scrub the laces to clean the accumulated dirt. Now, put the laces in the sun to dry them out.

Clean the tops

To clean the tops, you can dip the toothbrush or scrub in the soapy solution and then use the scrub for scrubbing the tops. You can put one of your hands into the shoes and use the other to rub the shoes with the toothbrush.

Dry Your cleats

You can use a clean paper towel or a dry rag for drying the cleats and collecting any soapy water left on the shoes. Make sure you dry the sides, tongue and the soles of the cleats.

Once your cleats are dry, you should put the laces back on the cleats and then put on the shoes. Hopefully, now, you can clean your cleats yourself to make them last longer.

1999 FIFA World Youth Championship – Flying Eagles Wobble and Fumble At Home

In 1999, Nigeria won the right to host the 12th edition of the FIFA World Youth Championship. That was the year; the Flying Eagles were tagged «wobbling and fumbling». They started their World Cup campaign on home soil on a rather embarrassing note, with a 1-1 draw against lowly rated Costa Rica with Julius Aghahowa scoring the opener in the 20th minutes of play, before picking up their act against Germany, whom they defeated 2-0. The goals were scored by Ganiyu Shittu and Hashimu Garba in the 69th and 81st Minutes respectively.

Their last group match was against Paraguay, and they fumbled before a capacity crowd that had come to cheer them to victory. The game against Paraguay ended in favor of Paraguay 2-1 with Ganiyu Shittu scoring the consolation goal in the 38th Minutes of play. The Flying Eagles however managed to qualify for the round of 16 by the skin of their teeth.

In the round of 16, the Flying Eagles labored to secure a 1-1 draw against Ireland with the equalizing goal coming from diminutive striker Pius Ikedia in the 70th Minute. The game then went into penalty shoot out, and millions of Nigerians had their heart in their mouth throughout the duration of the kicks. It eventually went in the way of the Flying Eagles who scrapped through 5-3. Pius Ikedia, Gbenga Okunowo, John Aranka, Eddy Dombraye and Ganiyu Shittu all converted their spot kicks. Thomas Heary of the Republic of Ireland missed his spot kick to set a Quarter final pairing between Nigeria and Mali.

The Flying Eagles had their work cut out, as found the Malians too hot to handle in the quarterfinal clash played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in Enugu eastern Nigeria. The Malians were so ruthless in the quarterfinal clash, that they inflicted a 3-1 defeat on the hapless Eagles who could not fly when it mattered most. The chief tormentor of the Flying Eagles was Malian enterprising midfielder Seydou Keita who later emerges as the Adidas Golden ball award winner.

The defeat of the hapless Flying Eagles caused a lot of uproar in the sporting circle, with the eventual sack of Dutch Coach Thijs Libregts from the technical crew of the Nigeria U-20 National team. The team had a lot of potentials, but they could not fully utilize their full potential. Some notable players from that team include: Joseph Yobo, Rabiu Afolabi, Julius Aghahowa, Haruna Babangida and Late goalkeeper Sam Okoye.
