Getting Out of Debt With Zero-Based Budget

After accepting you must change your behavior to get out of debt, you are ready to look at relevant financial engineering tools. Again, I stress that without behavior change, tools and techniques will not improve your financial affairs. You must change your behavior because you choose to spend; money is merely the means to the end.

Zero-based budgeting is an important financial engineering tool for the household, particularly if folks are in debt. Developing and using a zero-based budget will help you sift your expenses. Traditional budgeting starts where you are as a base and then increases current dollar figures. Generally, the focus is on money, not activities, and the process assumes you need the status quo.

On the other hand, zero-based budgeting starts with a clean slate. For a household, it identifies a realistic lifestyle that will lead to minimum expenses in a defined period. It excludes discretionary items, but includes debt repayment plans. Most of all, it does not focus on money but on activities.

A proper zero-based budget for a household should show clear answers in these three areas: goals, plans, and monetary estimates (budget).

Goals

  1. What are the goals for the budget period?
  2. Is each goal necessary? Why?
  3. What if you do not do them now?
  4. Should each needed goal continue the same way?
  5. Suppose you stopped it?

Here, you are trying to identify your minimum lifestyle level for the period. Will you cut goals and activities so deep that you focus almost entirely on debt reduction? For example, will you eliminate buying clothes, taking vacation, children’s hockey, dance, or other activities?

For an item to qualify as a legitimate goal or activity, you must be satisfied that not doing it will cause major unavoidable disruptions to your lifestyle and household. How important are your daughter’s ice skating lessons?

Plans

  1. Is there a plan for each surviving goal? Is there a plan to control spending on your son’s football activities?
  2. Should the plan change to require less expenses? Should you carpool to go to your daughter’s soccer games?
  3. Could you defer the plan and the goal until a greater portion of your debts are repaid?

Monetary Estimate (Budget)

  1. Notice that financial calculations are just now being discussed, and only in the context of approved goals and plans.
  2. You will not look at last year’s budget because you will build this budget from scratch, focused on specific needed goals.
  3. You have to calculate what it will cost you to do each task and activity as if you had never done them before.
  4. The budget will exclude frills unless they have goals and plans. It will include debt repayment based on your debt repayment schedule.

Zero-based budgeting, done properly, is an effective tool that could benefit households and businesses. However, it is difficult to use because it involves much work. Besides, folks become insecure as it forces them to think unconventionally and creatively, to question the present state, and to embrace change. In short, zero-based budgeting will take you outside your comfort zone.

After doing your zero-based budget, you must get an accountability partner and then set up a reliable review process so you can see quickly effects of your lifestyle choices, compared with the zero-based budget.

I repeat, this is an exceptionally useful tool to help you get out of debt, but first, you must change behaviors that led to your indebtedness.

Soccer Coaching – Practice Players Vs Game Players

Ever notice that there are some players whose performance in practice is fantastic, but they are not contributors at game time? There are also players who do not seem motivated at practice, but are extremely effective during the game. Why is this?

I think it has to do with psychology. Some players are very comfortable with the practice environment, because they know the players around them. There is an element of security and familiarity that is not present on game day. Some players also suffer from performance anxiety, so they think too much about the outcome and not enough about the task at hand.

It is also common for players to have mental blocks, so they associate failure with certain scenarios. These players typically stress after a mistake and it takes them very long to recover. Some never do and their performance deteriorates as the game progresses.

Then we have the player that coasts through practice and is your best player on Saturday. This is also a psychological issue. This player loves a challenge and rises to the occasion on game day. He / she is confident and wants to prove to himself / herself as well as to the opponents that they can play. This player is not motivated at training because they have the incorrect interpretation of its purpose. To them it is just practice and they do not see the need to go all out against their teammates.

There are pitfall with both players. The player that works at practice, but can't translate this to game time has to overcome their personal fears. This takes time and experience. Some coaches do not have the patience and these players are left out. Especially at the higher levels. I know you are thinking how does a player with the ability, not translate it to the game? Well here is a possible reason. This player may have played for a coach when he was very young that stressed results … a screamer. This coach probably took players off every time they made a mistake and never offered a solution.

The game player is really no better off in the long run because they never get to full fitness. The training habits begin to catch up with them as their talent alone will not see them through at the next level. Training habits and discipline are key to success, so unless this player gains an appreciation for the intangibles, then they too will be left out eventually.

How is this type of player created? Here is another possibility. He / she was always physically gifted and the team relied heavily upon them for success when they were younger. He / she never had to push themselves at training because they were way ahead of the rest, so it was acceptable to the coach. This player played the entire game and was the focus of the team. They got the ball to him / her at all times regardless of outcome.

Obviously this player gained tremendous confidence, because of the treatment received from the coaching staff. The sad thing is that when these players become part of team where everyone is treated the same and is expected to work at all times, they sometimes fail. They now have to perform a function clarified at practice (an environment they have never taken seriously) and the game no longer revolves around them.

Race Your Match With The Soccer Cleats

Do you have a football match near time? Are you looking for best and cheap Soccer Cleats? Need any support in this regard? Here we are giving few tips and tricks on choosing Soccer Cleats for your upcoming match. Football boots are called soccer cleats in northern America. Unlike normal football boots, these have studs on the outsole of the boot which improve the grip of the shoes. The modern cleats are made with such a material which gives comfort while keeping the safety of the player on top priority. Unlike traditional ones, they offer a range of comfort without covering the entire ankle which means free air flow and less sweat during the match.

However, just because you are playing football you don't have to wear soccer cleats. Depending on the time, place and position of the wearer the kind of boots you use may vary. These are useful to you only when you are a lead player and need constant movement across the ground and they suit to such grounds where the surface is slippery and needs a grip. Now let's look at the composition of soccer cleats and tips to choose one that fits you. Any cleat is made up of three major components ie, Upper, midsole and outsole. The upper sole and the midsole are made up of the same material and are intended to provide comfort, support and great feel to the player. The only variation in various soccer cleats lies in the design, technology and material used in their manufacturing process.

Perhaps, a wide range of difference lies in their outsole based on which you need to select the cleats of your comfort. The outsole is nothing but the lower part or bottom of it. This part makes a huge difference among different models of these cleats. There are different soccer cleats for different places of play. If you are playing an indoor match you ought to choose indoor cleats which are generally flat surfaced, low-cut cleats with a slightly harder surface. If you are playing on a harder outdoor or on artificial turf, then you must choose turf cleats. These have slightly raised patterns on the bottom that makes your play smooth and safe.

If you are playing outdoor match soccer cleats designed for outer space must be used. These are made up of hard plastic, rubber or metal studs which enable the player to move, run, turn and accelerate quickly and safely. The cleats outdoor are specially made for hard surfaces which need traction preventing a player from slipping on any sort of ground and under any circumstances.

FIFA World Cup Background

The FIFA World Cup has taken place every four years since its first tournament in 1930 – with the exception of 1942 and 1946 due to World War II – between the senior men’s national soccer teams of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Since its inaugural tournament, the FIFA World Cup – now also known as the Soccer World Cup, the Football World Cup, or simply the World Cup – has become the most widely viewed sports championship in the world, with an even larger television audience than the Olympic Games.

Since 1977 FIFA has also organized youth equivalents of the international tournament, as well as club football equivalents and equivalents for soccer variations including futsal and beach soccer. In 1991, FIFA also introduced a women’s soccer equivalent to the World Cup, called the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the first of which took place in the People’s Republic of China between twelve nations and was won by the United States and which now takes place between sixteen teams over the course of three weeks.

When the world’s first international soccer match had taken place in 1872, in Glasgow between Scotland and England, the creators of the game – as well as by the time the first international soccer tournament, the first British Home Championship, had taken place twelve years later in 1884 between Scotland and Ireland – the sport had still yet to gain much international attention and was played very little outside of the U.K. Nevertheless, the beginnings of soccer’s international popularity were budding. As other nations did come to acknowledge the sport in the years that followed, it was still only regarded as a demonstration sport, especially when it came to the Olympic Games; during the 1900 and 1904 Olympics, it was played as an event, but without the awarding of any medals.

In 1904, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded in Paris as an official, organized international governing body that would represent the interests and advancement of soccer worldwide, and among its first orders of business was to attempt to establish a truly international soccer tournament outside of the context of the Olympics, although it took years for them to successfully achieve that goal. The World Cup would become the premiere international sporting event culminating in the most coveted sports award in the world.

Since 1966, each FIFA WC tournament has had its own mascot, typically reflective in some way of the given year’s host country; and more recently, each WC has also had its own specially designed official match balls for each year. The first mascot was World Cup Willie, a lion representative of that year’s hosts, England, wearing a Union Flag Jersey which read «World Cup.» In 1970, the mascot was Juanito, a young boy clad in a kit and sombrero, as Mexico was the host of that year’s Cup. Since then, other mascots have included Naranjito (an orange) for Spain in 1982; Pique (a jalapeno pepper) for Mexico when they hosted again in 1986; Ciao (an Italian tri-color stick figure for Italy in 1990; Striker, the WC Pup for the United States in 1994; Footix (a rooster) for France in 1998, and Zakumi (a leopard) for South Africa in 2010.

Gerald Green Dunks Or How To Increase Vertical Jump

Ok, Gerald Green finished second this year in the Slam Dunk Contest (2008). His birthday-cake-dunk was sick, but the one between the legs with no shoes on wasn’t necessary – he can do better!

But have you seen Gerald Green’s 2005 summer league dunk where he – just like Vince Carter at the 2000 Olympics – jumped over a 7 footer for the dunk?

What about the 2005 McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest that he won? And in case you forgot, Green won the NBA Slam Dunk contest in 2007!

In this contest, Green first made a two-handed slam on an alley-oop pass off the side of the backboard from teammate Paul Pierce. Then he jumped over fellow finalist Nate Robinson while wearing the No. 7 Celtics jersey of 1991 dunk champion Dee Brown – and shielding his eyes in the crook of his elbow in an homage to Brown’s memorable no-look dunk.

«I knew they were going to be tough, because those guys had the creativity and the dunking style,» Green said about the famous judges Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and Julius Erving.

«I tried to come out with something they never did before, and hopefully they could give me a score.» – Gerald Green

At the end of the contest, G-Money effortlessly leaped over a 3-foot table for a windmill jam.

«That boy has some serious hops,» Nate Robinson said after that dunk, eyes wide. «Kid can fly.»

Actually, Gerald Green has the highest vertical leap in the NBA by now – 48 inches!

The 6’8»/ 200 lbs. shooting guard jumps so high, he has to watch out not hitting the rim with his head! On one occasion in high school, Green went higher than expected and cut his head on the rim.

«If you’re trying to glide, you want to get your footwork right,» said Green. »If you don’t get your footwork right, you won’t accelerate as far or glide as far or get as high as you need to get. Then, at the height of the dunk, you want to reach your peak. That’s where you want to get the ball where it needs to be. Sometimes I don’t reach my peak. I dunk and then I seem to go a little higher then I fall down. It has happened before. I’m just trying to put the ball in a certain area.» – Gerald Green

By now, you may think:

So what? It’s great for him that he can jump that high,

but how can I increase my vertical?

Well, besides the excellent, but common exercises like jump rope, calf raises and squats, there are some very effective exercises only few people know about:

Thrust ups:

Starting position: Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, and close your knees. Then jump up only using your calves, only bending at the ankles. When your land, go jump again as high as possible.

Burnouts:

Starting position: feet shoulder width apart, knees closed. Now go up on your toes und jump up only using your toes.

Laundry Jumps:

Take an object – a bag or something like that – and try to jump laterally over it. It can be between 10 and 20 inches high. Try to jump as high and far as you can back and forth over object.

Power Skip

Jump and try to bring your left leg up to your chest. Then do the same with the other leg.

For more exercises and crucial things to know about vertical jump (f.e. why often what you «don’t» do is more important then what you «do» do) please take a look at this page I strongly recommend:

p.s.

Did you know that Green plays with only four and a half fingers on his shooting hand? He ripped his ring finger on a nail when he was about eight and doctors were forced to amputate down to the knuckle.

p.p.s.

In case you haven’t heard yet – the 22-year old Gerald Green was released by the Houston Rockets…

Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Definitely Not Learn German!

1) The Germans don’t want to talk German to you anyways – the majority

Ask any American, Aussie or Kiwi who has lived in Germany: As soon as the Germans hear that you are a native English speaker, they will be so keen on practicing their English that you will barely have a chance to have any conversation in German. Even if you approach them in German – they will reply in English.

2) The Germans that will talk German to you – a dangerous minority

There is a small minority of Germans that will talk German to you. However, once you find one of those German exhibits, it is very likely that they will not rest until you have perfected every tiny detail and obscurity of German grammar, sentence structure. They will probably also push you to be at least fluent in 10 of Germany’s regional dialects. So think twice about disclosing your interest in learning German to those folks.

3) The Pope & the Champions League

The pope is no longer a native German speaker (if I understand the news right it should be someone from South America right now) so there is not need to learn German in order to talk to the Pope. On the other hand, judging from the current Champions League, I would presume that a German soccer player should be the next world-soccer player of the year. However, I feel it might be Bastian Schweinsteiger who is from upper Bavaria, and thus, will not be able to communicate with you in a proper standard German way.

4) The ultimate German dialect: Kölsch

You will not learn what really matters in a class. My own research indicates that a vast majority of Germans and German residents agree that the regional dialect of the great City of Cologne (City: «Köln»; dialect: «Kölsch»; regional beer: «Kölsch») is the most desirable and fun of way of talking German. However, you cannot learn Kölsch from a book, but you will have to actually come down hang out with the local crowd.

5) German is too difficult anyways

The last and obvious point is: German is just too difficult to learn. If you disagree, please let me know and will post my next blog entry in proper «Amtsdeutsch» and have you guys translate it.

I am not sure if I might have missed some points. Please feel free to let me know and maybe we can continue the list.
