Manchester United Sign Fred

Manchester United unviels Fred

Manchester United sign Fred for 52.5 million pounds on a five year deal from Shakhtar Donetsk with a one-year contract extension. The blue half of Manchester and the current English Premier League champions, Manchester City were also in the race to sign the twenty-five-year-old from Shakhtar but were beaten by United for his signature. The club has a history and an attractive trophy cabinet which way bigger than City and is the reason why Fred chose to join Manchester United.

The Brazilian said that he has chosen Manchester United over their bitter rivals Manchester City to win trophies. Fred was unveiled at Manchester United on Thursday by their mascot, who is also Fred playing the piano. The Brazilian is known for his creativity and brilliant vision in the midfield. Mourinho has been looking to sign a player with a similar profile. Fred will still have to fight for a starting place ahead of Ander Herrara and Juan Mata alongside Pogba and Lingard.

Manchester United was clearly looking to splash big after they fell short of the League leaders with a huge margin. however, last season was Manchester United’s best one since the retirement of their iconic manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The club has seen a difficult period since Sir Alex retired after a stay of 25 years following which United have appointed their third manager in Jose Mourinho. With David Moyes struggling with his players and was sacked within 10 months of his appointment. His successor Luis Van Gaal lasted for 2 seasons but was criticised for his boring gameplay and 3-4-2-1 formation. Even though Van Gaal had experienced success in Europe with Bayern Munich and Ajax with his tactical philosophy but failed to live up to the expectations at Manchester United. He was sacked with a lot of bitterness at the end with the club’s board. Following the two failures, Jose Mourinho was appointed.

Manchester United’s signings under Jose Mourinho

The Portuguese man has splashed around $300 million in the transfer market and made some iconic signings since his sacking from Chelsea.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic for free from PSG.

Paul Pogba from Juventus for $100 million which was the most expensive transfer until last year when Neymar switched to PSG.

Nemanja Matic from League rivals Chelsea. He has cemented his place as a defensive midfielder and improved the team significantly.

Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the winter transfer window. The deal was a swap for Henrikh Mkhitaryan who was struggling for form since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Victor Lindelof from Benfica. The Swedish player has failed to show consistency like most of other Mourinho’s signings but has been excellent at times.

Diego Dalot is the new right back signed this year before Fred. The twenty-year-old is assumed to be the best right back in his age group.

6 Interesting Facts About Manchester United FC You Probably Didn’t Know Before

Manchester United FC is probably one of the most successful professional football clubs on the planet. Also known as The Red Devils, the club is based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. Here are some interesting facts about Manchester United you probably have never heard before.

Fact #1 – Manchester United was not the first choice for the football club’s name.

When founded in 1878, the club was named Newton Heath LYR Football Club after the Carriage and Wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot at Newton Heath. The name was changed to Manchester United Football Club on 24 April 1902 due to change in ownership.

Fact #2 – The Red Devils is the first English team to compete in The European Cup.

Despite the fact that the Football League objected the participation of English football teams in the European Cup, Manchester United took part in the 1957 European Cup as the first English football team to do so. Before they were beaten by Real Madrid on the way to semi-finals, the club beat Anderlecht FC from Belgium with a score of 10-0. This is remains their biggest win to date.

Fact #3 – The 1958 Munich air disaster claimed 8 players’ lives.

The plane crash that happened on 6 January 1958 cost 8 of The Red Devils players their lives. They are Duncan Edwards, Mark Jones, Geoff Bent, Eddie Colman, David Pegg, Roger Byrne, Tommy Taylor, and Billy Whelan. After winning a match against the Red Star Belgrade FC, the plane carrying the team players, officials, and journalists crashed in Munich, Germany. A total of 23 passengers were killed in that accident and several others were injured.

Fact #4 – The club holds many title records.

This football club holds the record for most top-division titles (19 times), most Premier League titles (12 titles), most FA Cups (11 cups), and the most FA Cup Final appearances (18). The Red Devils is also known as the first English football team to win the European Cup in 1968.

Fact #5 – The Red Devils lacks of UEFA European Cup.

Despite the fact that the Manchester United managed to get into the quarter-finals in 1984-1985, the team has never succeeded in winning any UEFA European Cup.

Fact #6 – The team is now under the most successful manager of the English football history.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson started managing club in November 1986, Manchester United has successfully won 27 major honors. Liberia Casinos

Liberia has been such a disastrous mess in recent decades that it would be amazing to find anything that still operated in the country, let alone casinos. However, that undervalues the resourcefulness of the Liberians themselves for Liberia’s casinos in fact amount to two.

The country was first founded as a refuge for slaves freed in the United States, so it always had something of a tension between the more educated returning slaves and the indigenous population. This continued down the years, from the founding in the 1850’s to 1980. The country was run by descendants of those freed slaves and in some ways remained in a time warp: until the 1980’s, the President and his ministers, for example, still wore Victorian clothes, tail coats, and top hats (and can you imagine that in the African heat?).

Samuel Doe, who was descended from one of the local tribes, in 1980, overthrew that ruling class, and the old leaders were executed by firing squad upon the beach. There then followed some 25 years of vicious violence in which hundreds of thousands of the inhabitants were killed, often in grossly brutal ways. This finally came to an end with a UN sponsored peace mission just a couple of years ago.

With that sort of background and recent history, plus the destitution and poverty of the country and the people, it might be surprising to learn that there are any Liberia casinos at all: But, it seems to be a fact that in such war zones and despotic dictatorships that a couple will stay open, so that those at the top can gamble the money they extort.

List of Liberia’s casinos:

– Casino Monrovia

– Casino Oceano

The Oceano has roulette, blackjack, and poker tables, as well as slots. Both of the Liberian casinos are in Monrovia, the capital.

As an example of how divided the country was (and as something of an explanation for the rage that drove the two recent civil wars), the current President is the daughter of the very first indigenous Liberian to even be elected to the national legislature, let alone anything more important. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is actually, by the standards of that part of Africa, over qualified to be a politician: she’s worked for both Citibank and the World Bank. Her opponent in the recent elections was actually George Weah, an international soccer player.

With the recent peace (and the involvement of the UN in its imposition means it will probably stick), it is likely that the gangster element will disappear from Liberia’s casinos, and it might be even true that the sector will expand.

How Often is the World Cup of Soccer Held?

The World Cup is soccer’s biggest stage – it is the championship of the most widely played sport in the all of the world. The talk, preparation and qualifying for each incarnation of the World Cup tournament seems to be going on all the time – but the final of soccer’s biggest tournament only take place during a one month period every four years.

Many fans, clubs and organizations argue that the World Cup tournament itself, as well as the sport of soccer would benefit greatly from increasing the frequency of soccer’s world championship tournament. Some present very valid points and cite that other major sporting events that hold tournaments on an international level are capable of organizing those tournaments once every year.

There is no doubt that the World Cup’s allure wouldn’t be hurt by holding the tournament every three or even every two years. It would probably increase soccer’s international popularity and would certainly do well to increase the tournaments revenue potential – holding the tournament every two years would, in effect, double the amount of revenue created by the biggest international sports tournament. Reducing the number of years between World Cup tournaments would most likely also allow the qualifying team’s players to be more recognizable to fans – the players would be in front of the fans and on a big stage potentially twice as many times during their careers. This could potentially make fans feel more connected and attached to the players on the World Cup teams and possibly even cause an increase in the amount of people who tune in to watch the World Cup finals.

Why Every Four Years?

World Cup purists argue that every four years is ideal for the tournament and it is relatively unlikely that any change in World Cup frequency will actually occur – at least within the near future. It does take quite a bit of preparation to get ready for a month long tournament which draws in teams from more than thirty countries and fans from probably more nations than that.

The host country is voted on and selected long before the tournament will actually be held and the lengths to which the organizers go to ensure that everything is not just prepared, but perfect for each World Cup tournament are truly exhaustive. Other major sports tournaments may host players and fans from all over the world but few, if any can match the sheer magnitude of the World Cup tournament.

More than 200 countries will vie for a spot in the final phase of the World Cup tournament in 2010 to be held in South Africa, and of those more than 200, only thirty one teams will make the cut to appear in the World Cup (the South African team receives an automatic bye to compete as the host nation, making the total team count an even thirty two.) Many believe that trying to cram all of the qualifying and all of the necessary preparation into a shorter time period would hurt the quality and the overall success of the tournament – and that could very well be true.

The only other sporting events that are truly comparable (even bigger than the World Cup), are the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, which are both also held once every four years due to all of the preparation of the destination and the athletes who are to be involved.

Holding the tournament only once every four years only adds to the majesty of the World Cup and contributes to the sheer desire and determination of the many teams involved to first make the cut to the finals and then compete for the prestigious title of World Cup Champion.
