Top 3 Reasons Why Homework Should Be Banned

The debate over whether homework is still a viable learning tool or has become outdated has actually been going on for many years. The trend in this debate seems to be heading in the direction of «outdated» but there certainly is no consensus yet. The factors I see as most significant in this issue are societal, centered on the family, and are primarily based on TIME; and as such, are unlikely to be reversed.

Top 3 Reasons Why Homework Should Be Banned:

1. Family time gets first priority.

Family life has changed considerably over the past few decades. With today’s high divorce rate, many parents spend a great deal of time just shuffling children back and forth. Each parent values the time with their child and the child values the time spent with each parent.

The financial realities of life now dictate that both adults in the home need to have jobs, but those jobs do not always coincide. Many of the jobs in today’s society are not the old standard 9-5 kind of jobs. When parents get home, they very often bring their own version of homework.

Many families are having to deal with military deployments to various parts of the world, and all indications are that we will be deploying soldiers as «peacekeepers» for many years to come. A parent on deployment may be gone for up to a year at a time. Some families have had to deal with multiple deployments. In a few cases both parents have been deployed at the same time.

For each of these situations and many others, family time becomes too precious to spend on school homework.

2. Children are too busy.

In years past, children came home from school, changed clothes, went outside to play with the neighbor kids until dark, did their homework–sometimes with parental help, and then went to bed early. Not so anymore!

Today, a large percentage of children are involved in some kind of sport after school. It may be Little League, or league soccer, swimming at the «Y,» football, volleyball, etc., but kids are involved in sports. Many also take music lessons, or dance, or gymnastics, or even language lessons. Some children are involved in scouting. Some are active with church activities. The list of potential involvements is quite long; but the point is that by the time children get home, THEY ARE TIRED!

School homework is the very last thing they want to do.

3. Teens are even busier.

Many teenagers are involved in the same kinds of activities as their younger siblings, but they may also be involved in school activities like band, drama, debate club, etc. Some teens play school sports as well as league sports. And on top of everything, some teens have jobs. Many of the teens who don’t do school activities, work a job after school every day.

When are these students supposed to do school homework?

Certainly, it can be argued that a student’s «job» should be learning first; and, I hate to admit that I said those words once or twice in my teaching career. However, we all must realize that life changes and we must adapt to those changes. To continue to require homework of students whose families endorse their activities is simply not fair. The schools cannot be in a position of punishing the child (for failing to do homework) when the family considers other things more important.

Soccer Body Painting Ideas and Football Costumes

Are you searching for soccer body painting ideas and a painted football costume? If you have already searched to find a great body design, you may have noticed how many different photo galleries are available out there – both for male and female soccer costume ideas.

So whether you would like to take a look at the best body design ideas simply as a hobby in your spare time, or perhaps you would like to draw a creative soccer art on your body, you will find out some helpful ideas here in this free guide.

Why Body Painting is the New Trend as a Football Cheerleading Outfit?

For decades, it has been a motivational custom to support our favorite team by various means – from cheerleading dances, songs, waving the soccer team flag, or simply shouting supportive messages to them during the game.

So now in the 21st century, where young people are more innovative than ever, a new trend is setting into place: Soccer body painting.

You have already seen the typical old way of wearing the football team costume, when the football fans would like to support their team – especially in big important matches.

Now this new way of wearing a body or face painting art, adds a kick to it. Because it is more creative, more bold, and stands out from the rest of the crowd.

Now depending on how comfortable you are with the idea, you may paint on your skin with no clothes on. Or to dress more modestly, you can wear a white simple underwear and paint on top of it, so it almost looks like it is a part of your own skin.

Female and Male Body Art Ideas for Men and Women

When it comes to clothes, tattoo, and body and face paints, there are usually slightly different styles suitable for men, women, or children. So it is a wise idea to check out different designs based on your age and gender, to find the style that matches you the best.

For younger kids or teenagers, body arts are usually a fun way to celebrate a birthday, or as a part of a costume party. But for adult men and women, body painting is more like an art. A way to express a bold unique side of them through the body.

That is the reason female body paint styles are usually designed to appear more attractive, feminine, and focus on the unique curves of the body. To put it simply, body art designs for women are usually more sexy.

On the other hand, male body styles are focused on delivering a character message – like strength, power, or simply a good sense of humor. Superhero designs are common for men especially (e.g. Batman, Spiderman, Superman, etc.)

So hopefully the above mentioned tips helps you find your favorite body and face painting design more easily.

Soccer Training in the Heat – 5 Tips to Prevent Dehydration, Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke

In a hot climate, regardless if you are in this environment all year round or if it is hot in your spring and summer, you still must be able to train at a the highest intensity possible. It is for that reason you need to be aware of your soccer player's physical health.

The most important thing is to keep your players hydrated on a consistent basis. First let us take a look at the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Heat exhaustion is the early stage of heat illness and is the most common form you see with soccer training. This occurs after long periods of training in a hot environment.
Heat exhaustion is an early indication that the body's temperature regulating system is becoming overwhelmed. If not addressed immediately it may lead to heat stroke and death.

Soccer players lose fluid through sweating which decrease blood volume. Blood flows to the skin away from the vital organs like the heart, lungs and kidneys.

Signs and Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion
Normal or below body temperature
Cool moist pale skin
Headache
Nausea
Dizziness
Weakness
Exhaustion

Heat stroke is the least common and most severe heat related illness. This occurs if you ignore the signs of heat exhaustion. Heat stroke develops when the body's cooling mechanism cannot function due to lack of treatment. Sweating stops and the body cannot cool itself and body temperature rises at a quick rate. Unfortunately if there is no treatment vital organs like the heart, kidney and brain begin to fail. If there is no medical treatment death is imminent!

Signs and Symptoms of Heat Stroke
High body temperature
Red hot dry skin
Progressive loss of consciousness
Rapid, weak pulse,
Rapid, shallow breathing

Here are five things you can do to prevent heat illnesses.

1) Find an area with shade either under tress or a tent. Just getting a player out of the direct heat can help them lower their body temperature.
2) Take a water break every fifteen to twenty minute from soccer training
3) Encourage pre-hydration. Make sure your players have plenty of fluid before soccer training.
4) Immediately after training make sure your soccer players have at least 250ml to 500ml of fluid. At this sports drink is good to have for electrolyte balance.
5) Players should avoid eating anything heavy before they train. The less the stomach contains the less stress on the body during training.

Keep this in mind with younger players. They do not have fully developed sweat glands. Youth Soccer players, until they reach puberty, cool down through urination. Many coaches and parents are unaware of this so keep this mind If you are working with younger soccer players.

Finally, training soccer players until exhaustion in the heat will lead to preventable injuries. Sometimes less is better than more.

Enjoy your training in the heat.

What Happened In The UK In 1992?

Breaking 1992 down into the biggest political, sports and entertainment news; here’s what happened…

The queen had both an expensive and an embarrassing year; early on announcing that she would bow to public pressure and pay income tax (the first time a British monarch had done so for over 50 years) and, at the end of the year, having her Christmas speech leaked to and published in ‘The Sun’ ahead of the big day. It was also a bad year for Manchester after the IRA exploded two bombs in centre of the city; injuring 64 people and causing millions of pounds of damage.

Politically, the government, led by John Major, made themselves unpopular on two fronts, by firstly signing Britain up to the ‘Treaty on European Union’ (many saw this as a loss of Britain’s identity); then secondly announcing it’s plans to close a third of Britain’s deep coal mines, with the loss of 31,000 jobs.

In terms of sport, 1992 saw Barcelona hosting the Olympic Games; it being the first time in 20 years that every country had been present (with no boycotts or bans in places). Linford Christie was the star of the event by becoming the oldest ever Olympic 100m champion (at 32 years old!). The year also saw ‘The Football Association’ launch the new ‘Premier League’, no-one at the time quite realising the revolutionary effect that it would have on the game.

Entertainment wise, the quirky, fast paced breakfast TV programme ‘The Big Breakfast’ made its debut. There was plenty of chaos and disorder on the show; Chris Evans being the one to lead the fun, games and competitions. The BBC were far, far less successful with their attempt at entertaining the public with ‘Eldorado’. Focusing on a community of ex-pats living in a Spanish fishing village, it was slated for its wooden actors and uninspiring storylines (later to be axed after just one year).

The big movies of the year were ‘Wayne’s World’ and ‘Reservoir Dogs’. The first being about Wayne and Garth’s battling it out with a hot-shot TV producer to save their own low-budget TV show (and also win the heart of the lovely Cassandra!). The second being Quentin Tarantino’s story of a botched robbery and the hunting out of the ‘rat’ (was it Mr. White, Mr. Orange, Mr. Blonde, Mr. Pink, Mr. Brown or Mr. Blue?).

What Is League of Legends?

League of Legends is a popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that has recently exploded into the online gaming scene. The game is published by Riot Games and was first released in 2009 for Mac and PC, the Mac client was later closed down.

The game offers the standard 5v5 game mode available in other MOBA games which pits two teams against each other on a map (called Summoner's Rift) with the main goal being to destroy the enemies base (Nexus).

League of Legends added a 3v3 option to the MOBA genre and introduced the Dominion gameplay mode. In Dominion players are required to capture and hold five objective points to reduce the enemies Nexus health. This game mode is aimed at creating a faster paced gameplay mode.

Influence Points

Influence Points are the main currency in League of Legends which are given to players for playing games. The amount earned varies based on several factors including the game result, summoner level and the number of bots in the game.

Influence Points (also known as IP) are used to purchase in-game items such as champions and runes.

Riot Points

Riot Points are the other currency available and are available via PayPal, credit / debit card or prepaid Riot Point Game Cards.

Riot Points can unlock run pages, champions and various boosts (experience and influence points). However, Riot Points can not be spent on runes. Riot Points can be earned for free through various activities (such as referring friends to League of Legends).

Runes

Runes add a level of customization to League of Legends. Players can increase a variety of stats such as health, damage, mana regeneration, movement speed and many other stats. This allows players to play the same champion but play them in a different way based on rune and mastery choices.

Champions

Players can choose from over 92 playable champions (and this number continues to grow every week).

Champions must be unlocked with Riot Points or Influence Points before they can be played. However, there are a number of free champions available to play each week to give summoners the option to trial champions before purchasing them. There are many champion types available including assassins, bruisers, supports, casters, junglers and tanks.

Ranked Matches

These games are just like standard games except that players are given a ranking based on the result of the game, this is known as the ELO ranking system which is also used in chess. This system has created what is known as 'ELO Hell', a place in the ELO system that is filled with poor players and intentional grievers, this section in the ELO system is hard to escape due to the team nature of the MOBA genre.

Conclusions

The game systems behind League of Legends are the reason for its success among the MOBA game genre. The game continues to take the genre by storm with its 5 million dollar prize pool for the 2012 game circuit. Check out their official website for full details: League of Legends Official Site .

"The El Clasico With Nothing to Play for" or So They Said

The match ended with 4 goals, 8 yellow cards, a red card and lots of controversies. Pretty explosive for an El Clasico with no stakes.

The El Clasico has always been one of the most awaited football matches that features FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, two of the biggest football clubs on the planet. The clash is not just limited to the contrasting football styles of the clubs as it is also seen as a clash between Spain and Catalunia. With such importance attached to the match, it has always lived up to the expectation of football fans. Emotions run high on the field as tempers flare and controversies and fights ensue. This Sunday’s El Clasico had been described as a damp affair even before its start as Barcelona had already won the league while Real Madrid were being cautious in preparation for the Champions League Finals. The fact that this was Iniesta’s last Clasico was the only reason most fans looked forward to the football match. There were others who reminded the fact that Barcelona had remained unbeaten during the league and cup season so far and a defeat would mean they would fail to go the full season unbeaten.

But all of that damp El Clasico talk turned into dust as Barcelona took an early lead through Luis Suarez who perfectly connected with a Sergio Roberto cross. Real Madrid soon equalized as Cristiano Ronaldo connected with Benzema’s headed pass that was set up by Toni Kroos. Both teams continued to threaten each other’s goals as chances were being created left and right. Ronaldo also picked up an injury that saw him hobbling during the rest of the half. By the end of the 40th minute, two of Real Madrid’s defenders were shown yellow cards and so were Barcelona’s Messi and Saurez. But the real controversy started when the referee failed to notice Gareth Bale’s horrible challenge on Samuel Umtiti that should have earned him a straight red card.

Things soon started getting heated up as half-time approached. A Real Madrid attack on the left flank saw a clash between Marcelo and Sergio Roberto. The latter lost as cool and threw his fist into Marcelo’s face. The referee had a clear view of this clash and showed a straight red to Roberto just at the half-time break. This meant that Barcelona had to play the entire second half, one man down.

While Barcelona were down to 10-men, Real Madrid had to substitute Ronaldo due to his first-half injury that caused a swollen ankle. Real Madrid dominated the half but were not able to create many chances. Barcelona once again took the lead as Messi scored from Suarez’s pass. There was a fierce protest from Real Madrid players as Saurez had fouled Varane in the lead up to the goal but got away with it. Real Madrid struggled to find the equalizer against a 10-man Barcelona and it was Gareth Bale who curled it in the 72nd minute to level the scoreline.

Barcelona continued to attack as a super effort from Lionel Messi was beautifully saved by Navas. Messi once again ended up close to scoring as a curling shot from him ended just wide from the post. Real Madrid too were starting to take advantage of 10-man Barcelona. Marcelo was brought down inside Barcelona’s box but the referee once again made a controversial call as Real Madrid were denied a clear penalty. Barcelona, having given a clear lifeline, continued to resist all advances from Real Madrid and hang on to dear life. Nelson Semedo brought on for Coutinho to take up Roberto’s position in defense, impressed with his speed and stamina. Finally, Semedo cleared the ball with a header as the referee blew the final whistle.

Andres Iniesta’s final El Clasico had exploded into life early on and lived up to the billing. There was applause all around has the Maestro took his one last bow.

Despite all the controversies and bad refereeing decisions, everyone was satisfied with the result. Barcelona’s manager Ernesto Valverde later exclaimed that it would have hurt if the unbeaten streak had been broken by Real Madrid, so a draw was a fair and acceptable result. As they say, even a draw means unbeaten. Everyone who saw Sunday’s El Clasico will agree that the players took to field as if everything was at stake, contrary to the belief that nothing was.
