18-20m I'd say cause of his consistency in a poor team. 25m in their position they're in… Probably worth it with his hold up I just hope they sign someone else seen as Wilson isn't ready.

I personally think that title is like a metaphor for other peoples views on our club from the outside looking in. We get sky pundits lining up to bash us saying we should be realistic when we are looking into big moves. That Newcastle is less desirable than London and all those narratives. But then we sign Trippier and Wood and the split leads to people saying its risky or desperate or what not. I feel sorry for the new owners because to a large extent they cant win no matter what they do.

I get this move in terms of hurting Burnley. But in terms of the quality on the pitch, I can't get why the ambition isn't higher for the amount of money that's being mentioned?? You mentioned Solanke, I'd counter with Origi. He ads presence up top, but has the pace to play in behind the defence as well as receiving the ball. He's a brilliant finisher and good in distributing as well, far better than Wood. And Liverpool is looking for about 10-15 million tops with his contract out in the summer. For me this is a no brainer by some margin!

I think Chris Wood is a very smart signing and ticks all the boxes for Newcastle. When you're in a relegation battle you want players that can hit the ground running, Wood is Prem proven, doesn't necessarily need to be scoring to contribute to the team, gives cover for Wilson, weakens a relegation rival and if they do go down him and Wilson will score about 25 each in the championship assuming Wilson doesn't leave. Dominic Solanke would be a better long term option but if he comes and and struggles the first month to adjust to the prem then Newcastle are probably gone by the end of February. Wood is a move that is gonna help them survive and help them go back up if they don't

It's a good move for the short term, and provides them a usually reliable striker while just about putting the nail in Burnleys coffin. Additionally, while not a large market it could get NZ right behind Newcastle, especially as black and white are associated with NZ national teams

I think the incredible value of Wood in the box on every single Trippier cross, free kick and corner might be overlooked here. Wood's ability to get Newcastle up the pitch directly will be appreciated, but the fact that two moves immediately make them miles more dangerous from set pieces is pretty valuable.

  7. Danny Billington

Everything about the move other than the money spent is good, £25 million is way too much for him but directly weakens a survival rival, proven PL goalscorer and completely different option to Wilson. Only positive for Burnley is they’ve shown they can recruit well with Cornet – could put the money to some real use

Not one single Newcastle fan singled out Chris Wood as the answer to their problems, he has definitely gone there for his last big payday, which none of us would say no to, but its a massive pin in the inflated ego balloon that is the Newcastle fan base, 24 hours ago they were talking about Sven Botman and Dusan Vlahovic, they get a guy thats scored 3 goals this season for £25 million plus massive wages, they set off to do the shopping at Marks and Spencer but ended up buying the out of date stock from Lidl…

Is it really that much of a story if a club who will probably outspend every other club this January, manages to get a point more than Burnley, Watford or Norwich? Newcastle have always been in touching distance of safety even at their worst this season, and we all knew the cash injection was coming. It's a bigger story if they go down I think. Not that it makes the slightest difference in the long term.

For me I wouldn't go over 20 no way, he is 16-18 mill imo. But of course he will cost more if you are buying from a rival (position in the table). I think he would be enough to keep them up.

  11. ArdensGember

Not a Burnley fan, but a Chris Wood fan (from NZ), so I think this move could be great. Burnley looks sure to go down, and Wood looks like a good option to fit in this Newcastle to help keep them up
