WEST HAM UNITED 1-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED | MATCH DAY

West Ham host a resurgent Newcastle United in the first Premier League game of the weekend on Saturday lunchtime. While, a few weeks ago, David Moyes’ side would surely be looking at this as nothing but a routine victory, three wins on the bounce has given Eddie Howe hope of keeping January’s biggest spenders in the division.

West Ham, meanwhile, could yet live to regret not pushing the boat out for new recruits last month but kept their European push alive with a late goal at Leicester City on Sunday to ensure they left the King Power Stadium with a point.

A thoroughly entertaining meeting between the two during the season opener saw West Ham triumph as 4-2 winners and, given the attacking form of both teams recently, it seems reasonable to expect another interesting game.

I think we need to stop saying that our opponents played badly. We are working so hard to close teams down that we just don’t give them a chance to play. That was a fantastic performance and the point was the least we deserved. I agree with Eddie that we don’t need to fear anyone now.
